ACCESS Gears Up for 3rd Annual Summer Kick-Off in Downtown Ashland

ASHLAND – ACCESS is inviting the community to Foundation Plaza on Saturday, June 7, for its 3rd Annual Summer Kick-Off, promising an evening filled with fun, fundraising, and friendly competition.

Executive Director Sunny McCarty shared her excitement about the event:

“We’re thrilled to host our third annual Summer Kick-Off down at Foundation Plaza starting at 4:30 p.m. It’s shaping up to be a great time with something for everyone.”

A Cornhole Tournament will launch the festivities, with only a few team spots remaining. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, including two General Admission wristbands to the INKcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival, courtesy of Danny Wimmer Presents. Registration is available at ashlandaccess.com.

Ohio Fire Pizza will be on-site, hosting a “Dine to Donate” fundraiser, and live music will be provided by local favorites Tom’s Kitchen Table. Visitors can also enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides from 6 to 8 p.m., offered by the Stichler Family Percherons, weather permitting.

Pie in the Face for a Cause

One of the night’s most anticipated—and hilarious—features is a “Pie in the Face” fundraiser. Support Coordinator Ashley Williams explained how it works:

“Each ACCESS staff member has partnered with a well-known community figure. If we each raise $1,500 by June 7, they’ll take a pie to the face on stage after the cornhole tournament at 8 p.m.”

Here’s who’s in the hot seat:

Sunny McCarty is campaigning to pie Ashland City Schools Superintendent Steve Paramore

Ashley Williams is aiming to pie Deputy Curtis Hall from the Ashland County Dog Shelter

Shelly Jones is working toward pieing Michael Zickefoose from the Salvation Army Kroc Center

Donations can be made online at ashlandaccess.com—just click the Donate Now button and specify which team (and person) you want to see pied.

“This is all in good fun and for a great cause,” McCarty added. “It’s a friendly competition, but we really want to see those pies fly!”
